Looking for water in Madrid?
Although Madrid doesn't have a beach, there are spots with water where the heat is much more bearable. At Spotlife, we love discovering those places that seem like they're from another world but are just a stone's throw from home. Here are two you have to experience.
Purgatorio Waterfalls (Rascafría)

They’re called “Purgatorio,” but they look like they’ve been plucked straight from paradise. They’re located in the heart of the Sierra de Guadarrama, and, hard as it may be to believe, just an hour from Madrid.
A trail winding through pine trees, with the sound of water accompanying you all the way to the waterfalls. It’s the perfect way to disconnect from your phone, the noise, and everything else. Fun fact: there are only two vertical waterfalls like these in the entire Sierra de Guadarrama; one is this spectacular one on the Aguilón River, and the other is near the village of Navafría.

This place is a classic among those who know the area well, but it remains a hidden gem for many people in Madrid. At Spotlife, we love sharing places like this: authentic, natural, and unfiltered.
Navacerrada Village Reservoir

Just a half-hour from downtown Madrid, this reservoir is pure tranquility. No cars, no traffic lights, and no noise—just trees, reflections on the water, and fresh air. It’s perfect for taking a walk, reading, or simply sitting around doing nothing (which is also necessary). Technical trivia: it was inaugurated in 1969 to supply water to the villages in the mountainous region of Madrid, and today it holds about 11 cubic hectometers in a 47-meter-high dam crowned by a 517-meter-long curved spillway.

Few people know about it, which makes it even more special. At Spotlife, we take you to these quiet spots that don't appear on tourist maps. And the best part: they're closer than you think.
